Spring 2 week 1 updates.

This week in Lion's class we have been learning about the ancient Egyptian's achievements and how these were all only possible due to the river Nile. We produced reports on these and have been learning about the features of non chronological reports in English. Here we have been looking at the boy King Tutankahmun and creating our own non chronological reports about his life. In maths we have been looking at the properties of triangles, quadrilaterals and symmetry including creating our own symmetrical art. In RE we have been looking at the core concepts of Christianity.  In science we have started looking at sound and in art we have studied the importance of colour this week we are looking at Anthony Gormley's sculpture 'The Angel of the north' and how the colour contrasts the surroundings. Lastly, on Friday we had a jump rope workshop and were taught new skipping skills.

Spring Week 6.

This week in maths we have been multiplying numbers using concrete methods, by partitioning numbers and by using formal written methods of multiplication. In English we innovated Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory chapter 15 'The Chocolate Room' to create our own settings and give our own characters a surprising exit! In PE we performed our community dance and in history we have collated our knowledge so far to create timelines showing key events from the Roman Empire and the Ancient Egyptian Civilization. Lastly, in art we created our own Ron Mueck style pictures of using on our theme for the half term, line.

Spring Week 5.

This week we have been looking at multiplication methods in Maths, trying to choose efficient methods. We have continued with our letter snuggling challenges in Kinetic Letters and have also created a character to add to our own version of Charlie and The Chocolate factory, ready for us to innovate next week! In History, we have begun to look at the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation and in Art this week we have looked at Ron Mueck's Ghost and how line is used to show contrast in pictures. Lastly, on  Thursday we had a visit from our local PCSO Mohammed and on Friday we had Forest School.

Spring Week 4.

This week we have been multiplying by partitioning in Maths, using concrete resources to help us. We have also created and wrote a setting description to help us innovate our story Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in two weeks time. I have had a wonderful time reading the children's creations including 'The Nando's Factory', 'The Cheese Factory' and 'The Ice-cream Sundae Factory'. We have begun our letter snuggling challenges in Kinetic Letters and are looking to improve our presentation in writing even further.

Spring Week 3.

This week, Lion's class have been finishing addition and subtraction in Maths by solving a range of problems. In English, we have looked at fronted adverbials and how they can tell us when, where and how something has happened. We have also created similes to help us describe Charlie Bucket's House!

In History, we worked to create chronologically accurate timelines in pairs so that we could order the events of the Roman Empire that were significant, and led to the division and collapse of the empire. In RE, we continued to look at Muslim beliefs surrounding Eid and Ramadan as well as having our children sharing their own experiences around this. It was lovely to have the children sharing their knowledge.

Spring 1 week 2.

This week, Lion's class have been looking at Roald Dahl's Charlie and The Chocolate Factory as our class text. In Geography, we have been continuing our learning on Plate Tectonics, while investigating the types of plate boundary within the earth's crust. The children also learned where volcanoes and earthquakes occur and why, while looking at the 'Ring of Fire' an area of strong tectonic activity surrounding the Atlantic Ocean. In Art, we studied Lucian Freud's Narcissus and how line is used to show reflection, before creating our own versions.

Spring Week 1.

This week in Lion's class we have written recounts of our visit to The Palace Theatre to watch Cinderella. In Maths, we have started to explore addition and subtraction. Across the curriculum, we have explored Christian beliefs about Christmas in RE, early Christianity in Rome in History and looked at different types of volcanoes in Geography, including how to classify them. In Art, we have studied Anthony Gormley, both his sculpture 'The Angel of the North' and his painting 'Space' to show how line is important in Art and introduce our focus of 'Line' for the half term.
