Reflection Day

Yesterday we held our first reflection day of the year. The children came off their usual timetable to explore and reflect on the four core values of advent; peace, hope, joy and love. The children reflected on these values through art, dance, music, writing, nature and mindfulness. It was a great day in school where the values were evidently demonstrated throughout the day. We will be making a display of our reflection day in the hall and photographs will be on our website next week. We will be holding another Reflection Day in the spring term.

Bridge Church Visit

All the children at St Luke’s have been invited over to the Bridge church in December for a Christmas Experience. This will involve an interactive walk around the Christmas story as well as some craft activities. Bears, Giraffes and Elephants will be going on Friday 13th December from 9am until 11am and Tigers and Lions will be going on Wednesday 11th December from 1pm until 3pm. If any parents or grandparents are able to help us with walking the children over and being part of this experience, we would be very appreciative. Please let Mrs Cox know if you are able to help.

Sponsor Money

Thank you to all families who have sent in their sponsor money following our sponsored walk on Friday 8th November. If you haven’t yet sent in your sponsor money, please can you send it in as soon as possible. We have collected a fantastic amount of £957 so far!

Christmas Hampers

The Christmas Hampers for our Christmas raffle are always very popular. Each class has a coloured theme for the hamper and letters were emailed out to parents on Monday with details about each hamper. On Friday 6th December all children can come to school in their own clothes and bring in a donation for their class hamper. Raffle tickets will be going out in children’s book bags for you to have a chance to win one of the hampers.

Christmas Fun Day

On Thursday 19th December we will be holding our Christmas Fayre day in school. Letters have gone out to parents to request donations to cover costs for this event. All children will have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas craft activities and visit Father Christmas in his grotto. This is a fabulous day for the children but requires lots of organisation. If you are able to help the PFA on the day we would very much appreciate this. All families are invited into school on this day at 2pm to join us for carols and the raffle draw.

Christmas Performances

All the dates for Christmas performances are listed on the bottom of this newsletter.  We kindly ask that you arrive promptly for performances but not too early as we need to get the hall prepared. You are permitted to photograph and video performances but any images and videos you take must be used for personal use only and must not be uploaded to any social media sites to include Facebook, Instagram and You Tube. We will give all families an opportunity at the end of the performance to take a photograph of their own child. Refreshments will be available for a small charge which will cover costs. We will also be selling a Christmas decoration which your child will have made in school.

Plastic Amnesty Week – Week beginning 2nd December

In our attempts to help with climate change and reduce the amount of plastic we use, the children have decided we need to think carefully about the plastic we use in school. They have recognised that many children who bring a packed lunch to school have food in disposable plastic containers such as yogurt, Dairylea Dunkers and wrappers on snack bars. The Eco Council would like no disposable plastic in lunch boxes for the whole of next week and ask that only re-usable plastic is in packed lunches. We respectfully ask that all families support the Eco Council in their campaign to reduce plastic use.

Clubs

Just a reminder that all clubs finish next week for the rest of this term. We will be running after school clubs in the new year, but there will be no clubs for the first two weeks of the spring term.

Winter Coats

Could we respectfully ask that all children please arrive at school with access to a warm/waterproof coat.  We will always encourage children to play out in the fresh air, even when there is light rain. Thank you.
