Caterpillar Diaries

April 11th

1 caterpillar was late to turn into a chrysalis.
This meant he became a butterfly later.
When I went to release him his wings were floppy..
because they were soft & folded in the chrysalis.

11th April. The butterflies were released!

It flew away so quickly!

April 11th. The chrysalises finally became butteflies!

It took them a while to hatch from their chrysalises. Can you see their symmetrical wings? They are lots of lovely shades of orange.

Now the caterpillars have become chrysalises they can be moved into their new home to await turning into butterflies. One fell off the lid, and so is resting on some kitchen roll awaiting metamorphosis. One slow coach hasn't begun their transformation yet, so is still in his pot with his food and I am keeping a close on on them so I can see when they are ready to join their friends in their new home.

The caterpillars attached themselves to the top of the pot. Then, over only a few hours, they were suddenly chrysalises! I had to take the lid off the pot and move them into their netted home to await their metamorphosis into butterflies!
